Directly translated, "relâche" means "cancellation", "theater dark", or "no performance today". Typically, it appears on posters of performances when they are cancelled or no longer showing. Satie composed the music to this ballet as a surrealist, Dadaist joke. He collaborated with several known artists in this ballet as well as others, such as, Parade (1916) and Mercure (1924).
